The solo performance “My Way” by Shahab Tolouie will be presented for the first time on October 25 and recurring on October 27 and November 24 at 19:30. His life journey, full of intimate and sometimes even miraculous stories, masterfully accompanied by music and singing, will be narrated in the mystical theatre Apropo in Prague’s Hradčany district.
Tickets for new shows March 9th, April 26th, 2024 will be available at: https://goout.net
Shahab describes his music as a journey from the shores of the Caspian Sea to the chaotic city of Tehran, then via Persian, Arab and Mediterranean countries to Andalusia on the Iberian Peninsula, and finally back to the Czech Republic. Or as he calls it: “My life in the form of a sound wave”.
During the performance, Shahab plays, sings, and tells stories from his life. As a musician, his journey began in Iran – at the turn of two epochs, before and after the Islamic revolution in Iran, a mysterious country for many. You will see everything through the eyes of a young musician hungry for knowledge and freedom, for whom a single unexpected event in the middle of the war decided his fate and future.
The performance is truly intimate and interactive. Shahab tells an amazing story with many unpredictable twists and touching moments and even almost miraculous moments that touch the most hidden corners of the heart. Like when his parents brought home a guitar and accordion in the middle of the war, which Shahab describes as the moment when all borders were wiped off the map for him.
It is an exciting story about the search for one’s own identity, about finding refuge in music, about love for Andalusian flamenco. A story of the intermingling and influence of cultures and a chain of unexpected events that took him from Iran to the Iberian Peninsula where he created his unique style of music “Ethno Flamenco”. A story about many other coincidences that eventually made the Czech Republic his second home.
The idea for the intimate performance came to Shahab when he was telling his life story to a friend in a coffee shop. He couldn’t hold back tears and told him: Your life is like a book… You have to write it. And being a storyteller by nature, Shahab took it to the next level.
For 80 minutes, it’s just Shahab on stage – with his story, his guitars and plenty of breathtaking details about ups and downs as varied and unexpected as the music he creates and plays. The performance will also include the music that influenced his musical journey as an artist, sung in Persian, English, Czech and Spanish. The audience also get to see/hear Shahab’s unique triple-neck guitar “Fusetar”, which was created as a result of the fusion of the two aforementioned cultures. And of course Shahab’s stunning voice.
“Always after a concert, people ask me about my homeland, cultural differences, my life choices, challenges, the music I listen to, or the places I really love and miss. For all those kindred spirits who come to chat after the concerts, this very personal and intimate presentation was created,” says Shahab.
After the performance, there is a discussion panel, in which Shahab answers all questions, or explain some moments from his life himself.
Please note that performances in the Apropo theatre have limited capacity.
For a period of two years, from October 2023 to December 2025, the show will tour the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
